Guess what this tasty carminative is? This plant is Fennel, her fragrant blooms have that licorice p


This beautiful plant grows to be soooo tall and has beautiful umbrella like blooms in which the fruit (seeds) of this plant lay and offers much medicine. The root is what we normally find and the candied covered seeds in Indian restaurants are commonly given after a meal to stimulate the digestive system & curb bad breath.  

This plant is an ally to new nursing mothers to help increase milk production known as a #galactalogue 

Colicky babies get relief from Fennel. 


Easing the pains of colic. It's transferred via the breast milk so mama increase your fennel intake! 👶 (tea recipe below) 


Fennel is an antispasmodic & relaxes the smooth muscle lining. It's a carminative herb meaning it will expel wind (gas) & will ease the gas pains, stomach cramping, colic, spasms, acidic stomachs, IBS, diarrhea & constipation.  


An ally to the respiratory tract, Fennel will reduce swelling & irritation to the lungs. An ally for those of us with asthma. It's not overly drying or moistening so it is ideal for soothing a wet or dry cough. 



Fennel is also an appetite suppressant, used in weight loss remedies 

Patients have used this after radiation and chemotherapy to help rebuild the digestive system. .

It's a diuretic meaning increasing the flow of urine and is used to help with water retention.

Reducing the risk of liver and breast cancer. Ladies, Fennel is also an #emenagogue which means it will promote menstrual flow. Although Blue Cohosh has always been my go to.

Improves the immune system & anemia. MAMA TEA for Colicky Babes. For the nursing mama to drink  1 tsp whole fennel seeds to 8 ounces of boiling water. Cover:steep for 30 minutes. It's best to crush the seeds up prior to pouring hot water over or you can grind them up in the blender before hand. Drink 1 cup, 3 times a day.
